ロシアのウクライナ侵攻後、フィンランドとスウェーデンがNATOに加盟申請していましたが、この内フィンランドが加盟を承認されました。昨日のBBCから私の訳でご紹介します。
Turkey’s parliament has approved Finland’s bid to join Nato, meaning the way is now clear to join the bloc.
トルコの議会は、フィンランドのNATOへの加盟申請を承認しました。これで、グループに参加することが確実になりました。
Nato is a the defensive alliance of North American and European countries whose members are currently helping Ukraine in its war against Russia.
NATOは北米とヨーロッパ諸国の防衛同盟であり、そのメンバーは現在、ロシアとの戦争でウクライナを支援しています。
Finland applied to join the bloc last year, along with its neighbour Sweden, because it was concerned about Russian aggression.
フィンランドは昨年、ロシアの侵略を懸念していたため、隣国のスウェーデンとともにブロックへの参加を申請しました。
Turkey was the last country to approve its entry.
トルコは入国を承認した最後の国でした。
Nato – the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – was formed in 1949 by 12 countries, including the US, UK, Canada and France.
NATO-北大西洋条約機構-は、1949年に米国、英国、カナダ、フランスを含む12カ国によって設立されました。
It currently has 30 members, who agree to help one another if they come under attack.
現在30ヵ国が加盟しており、攻撃を受けた場合にはお互いに助け合うことに同意しています。
The organisation’s original goal was to challenge Russian expansion in Europe after World War Two.
組織の当初の目標は、第二次世界大戦後のヨーロッパにおけるロシアの拡大に挑戦することでした。
